Andrew James Morandini

Andrew James Morandini, 83, of Meadville, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at home with his wife and family at his bedside following a brief battle with cancer.
He was born June 4,1926, in Vandergrift, a son of Louis and Margaret Zanotti Morandini Sr. He married Victoria Badura on May 20, 1950, at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Ford City. She survives.
He received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Pennsylvania State University.
He became employed at PPG in Ford City in 1950. While working as a wareroom glasscutter, he attended the New Kensington branch of Pennsylvania State University. After graduating summa cum laude with a degree in electrical engineering, he was promoted to electrical engineer. In 1969, he transferred to the Meadville PPG plant and retired in 1988 as a senior electrical engineer after 38 years with the company.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving his country as an electrician/radio technician third class, aboard the destroyer, USS Southerland, until his honorable discharge in 1947.
He was a member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas Roman Catholic Church, Conneaut Lake
He was a member of Conneaut Lake Knights of Columbus, Meadville Elks Lodge 219 and Crawford County Cursillo.
Andrew had a passion for sports, especially golf. He served as secretary for his Wednesday morning traveling group and a number of golf leagues, and created the Morandini Open. From its inception in 1977 to its close in 2008, the annual golf tournament attracted past and present PPG employees from across the US. Not only was Andrew a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was devoted to his church, community, friends and anyone who needed help.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Vickie Morandini of Meadville; two daughters, Margaret A. Leveto of Meadville and her fiancé, Dr. Richard Silverberg, of St. Augustine, Fla., and Mary Jo Morandini of Monaca; three granddaughters, Andrea E. Leveto of Meadville, Amy Leveto and her fiancé, Christopher Smith, of Meadville, and Becky Watson and her husband, Jason, and their son, Wilder Andrew Watson, of Columbia, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Betty Morandini; several nieces and nephews, including Jimmy and Mickey Morandini, Joseph Nation, Lynn Martin, Ruth Ann Hajel and her two sons, Sean and Dasher Wyley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, David Andrew Morandini; and two brothers, James and Louis Morandini.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematorium, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, with an Elks service at 7 p.m. and Scripture service to follow at 7:15. Additional calling hours will be Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Americas Roman Catholic Church, 155 S. Ninth St., Conneaut Lake.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Americas Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Stephen Anderson of the church as celebrant.
Burial will be in Our Lady Queen of the Americas Cemetery.
