Ship's History Project
Don't forget to send your photographs, stories and histories to our ship historians. These will be compiled and available for all shipmates to view at our next reunion. Some stories could even be added to our website. Once again, the e-mail addresses for Stan Shirey, George Chambers and Dave Riordan are located on the Officer's Page of the website.
Ahoy Southerland Shipmates:
Ship History By George Chambers
Shipmates:
My thanks to all who took the time to review the two manuscript copies of the Southerland History and provide comments. They will be incorporated as appropriate. Those of you who were unable to attend the reunion in Boston missed out on a chance to review the manuscripts. But all is not lost, as we still need your input. Please send me a story, an unusual incident, your opinion of a place visited, or a note about the impact that an individual shipmate had on you personally or on the crew in general. I plan to go to the National Archives in College Park, Maryland at the end of October to complete reviewing the deck logs and start reviewing the Command Histories. My plan is to have the finished forty-seven-year history of our fine ship completed by the 2008 reunion in Green Bay.
Thank you for your help in this project.
Sincerely,
George J. Chambers, SCPO, USN, Retired
