Our Association exists for it's members; those who served in all eras through the life of the USS Southerland. From the 'PLANKOWNERS' who boarded her and breathed life into her back in 1944, and then in 1964 the crew that was with her during the FRAM overhaul, breathed new life into her Then down through the decades until she was decommissioned in 1981 as the Navy's oldest active Gearing class destroyer (at that time).
This website serves as a portal for those who remember and keep alive the historic past that was the Southerland's.
Our Association maintains the historical artifacts from the Ship, as well as organizes reunions every other year. Our next one sets sail in Branson, MO in 2010. Details for this reunion will be available on this page under Latest News, the Branson Reunion Link when details are finalized.
